I would like to introduce Matt Lascola to the APA writing team. We first became acquainted while serving in the United States Navy, and have stayed friends since.
I’ve been playing sports my whole life and have always been really competitive. I started with soccer and baseball at a young age and got into wrestling when I got too high school. I was pretty successful with it which ended up taking me to a small private college in Pennsylvania to pursue it. Things didn’t end up working out so I ended up quitting and moving back home. Not satisfied with washing dishes everyday in a restaurant I joined the navy and got stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii where I met the great George Paul Scheppler.
After awhile I really missed the feeling of competition so I decided to join a gym. Luckily I found 02 Martial Arts Academy. What drew my interest about this place was the family type atmosphere it had. Everybody treated you with such respect and would go out of their way to help you with whatever you had a question about. Plus the fact that everybody there is a total beast! One of the biggest things I live by is surrounding yourself with good people. I get my butt kicked everyday by my training partners and I love it because it makes me that much better.
At first I focused mainly on Jiu Jitsu and had some success in the tournaments that I competed in but it still felt like it wasn’t enough. That’s when I started kickboxing and after about a year had my first kickboxing fight. Still I felt like it wasn’t enough so I trained even harder for Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Since then I’ve had 2 MMA fights which I won both and am currently getting ready for my next and toughest fight on May 3rd.
Now I am out of the navy and focusing full time on training to become the best that I can possibly be and seeing how far I can take the fighting thing. I plan on going back to school here soon for health and physical education to become a P.E. teacher.
This is something that I really love and live by so I thought I’d share it with you guys. Proverbs 27:17 As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.
